The April 2004 National
Bible
Conference
Sponsored by the New England Bible Conference
The Independent Fundamental Bible Conference held its tenth annual series of meetings on April 26-29, 2004. This was a four day Bible Conference (Monday through Thursday) hosted by the Middletown Bible Church, Middletown, Connecticut and sponsored by the New England Bible Conference. The conference was well attended with 13 states represented. The attendance for the Wednesday night service was 340.
The conference is patterned somewhat after some of the old fashioned Bible conferences of the past such as the Niagara Bible conferences or the Northfield Bible conferences of nearly a century ago. It is our desire to exalt Christ and lift up the inerrant Word of God. Only God’s Holy Spirit can move in the hearts and minds of God’s people, with the goal of glorifying the Son of God and conforming us into His image.
The speakers handled the Word of God well, and their exposition of the sacred Text was greatly appreciated and valued.
Dr. John C. Whitcomb was one of our main speakers for the 11th straight year. He is recognized internationally as a leader in the modern creationist movement, and as a faithful expositor of God’s Word, particularly with regard to Old Testament studies. This year he presented a series of messages on Acts chapters 1-2, a portion of God’s Word which is very significant dispensationally. He dealt with such topics as the ascension of Christ, the birthday of the church, and the miracles of Pentecost (very enlightening in light of the modern charismatic movement). Dr. Whitcomb also presented a session on Theological Trends of our Day in which he spoke at length regarding new developments in the area of the modern creationist movement.
Our second speaker was Dr. Richard Mercado from Arizona, the director of the Mexican Gospel Mission. Dr. Mercado, a very practical speaker, presented a series of messages on the subject of "Does Jesus Care?" The final message of this series applied this theme to the cross of Christ, in a very effective way.
The third main speaker was the Unknown Soldier who presented a series of five messages which were very personal and penetrating and highly recommended. He pointed to Biblical history which helps us understand the continued and the ongoing deterioration of the intended relationship that God has made possible for His people. Biblical history reveals this subtle, Satanic movement which was and is supported, approved and applauded by Israel, by the world system and, sad to say, by the church. This movement is characterized by finding a comfortableness with God and His Word all the while having less and less interest in God and His Word. As Biblical history demonstrates, it starts out with God’s people having the opportunity for a personal relationship with God which generally fails to take place. It is replaced by an impersonal system which is practically considered as God and His Word. This leaves God’s Person out, so God’s Word is also absent (God’s Word requires God). That which has replaced God and His Word makes for one’s comfort, also making it much easier to change our system for another system, etc. All of this is preparing the way for the transition to the tribulation period and the rule of Antichrist. The church, even today, is exercising itself with that which it devises, invents of its own heart (1 Kings 12:33). The resultant religious, political activity encourages the ecumenical system of Babylon spoken of in Revelation 17-18. How all this develops and is continuing to develop is considered in these messages.
All of these messages are highly recommended and are available on cassette tapes
